Nick Hedges - slums
An article from the Guardian about the images taken by Nick Hedges for Shelter in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A new book is imminent.

Powerful pictures.

Plus ça change!!
Contrary to what is said in one of the captions - history shows that we learn nothing from History. One of the important uses of photography - lest we forget. Thanks for posting. Mike |

I've always been aware of poverty but seeing it so graphically makes me angry. Somehow we can always come up with untold trillions for war but feeding the world (which is easily done) is seen as impossible.
And some great photos BTW. |

Quote:
Maybe not quite as bad as the ones shown, but I knew of and lived in bad accommodation in the 1980's, so the caption to one picture rings in my ears and memory: 'The inadequate supply of housing had simultaneously encouraged the emergence of rapacious landlords who preyed upon all those at the fringes of society.' It is for some, a very sad world that we live in and pictures like these shown are very important and should be seen more widely. Terry S |
