It hardly seems worthwhile just doing a PDF if you have a website of the same content. The book is worth it IF it sells and so far I have no idea if it does.
How is this site being funded currently? If all the sponsers are covering it then is a book really necessary given its quite a lot of work.

here's a recent article

http://daily.lenswork.com/2012/11/sa...urb-books.html

and here's a flickr thread http://www.flickr.com/groups/blurb/d...7622092236401/

seems people don't buy books from blurb much. Price and to find it in blurb you have to go to blurb and start trawling. There are so many poor to average photo books why would anyone look there when they can look in a bookshop at books that have had to pass an editor, proof readers, print quality control and with lower pricing.
Maybe a real niche book might get a few takers but photo books aren't niche.

Also seems that blurb are being a bit cagey about letting people show their sales stats. Could that be because individuals sales stats are so low it would put people off from producing one and reduce blurb sales even more?

Problem also that blurb doesn't market your book. If you google for landscape photography books, blurb doesn't show in the results even though there are loads in blurb.
People just won't find it unless they speciffically serch inside blurb or any of the other POD company websites. Except maybe amazon

And another thing. E-book readers are coming of age. So much so that Tablets will surpass them very quickly. Things such as the Google Nexus 7 have stunning quality screens and at £160 they make a lot of sense.
So instead of POD, I rekon and an e-book designed for tablets is the way to go for self publication and that makes it very much easier to market and sell via the likes of amazon where it will get seen or any other web site for that matter. And its a whole lot cheaper.

I think a FADU book is part vanity and part PR, both of which cost money rather than raise it... I don't think anybody thought it would be a profitable exercise in itself... but it won't cost anything if no one buys a copy. Well, apart from time etc.
Blurb isn't the only place for on demand printing, but the point is it should be seen in this context as just the printer, the means of delivery, not the publisher. It's up to us to market the book if that's what we want.
