Default JOBO Developing tanks

I have used JOBO tanks for as long as I can remember but last night two of them gave up the will to live.

To be more accurate the lids packed up and the central section which is both the light baffle and the sealing ring parted company from the locking ring due to a small piece of plastic breaking off inside.

Has anyone made a successful repair to these lids and how did you go about it? New tanks are eye wateringly expensive now.

Are these the 1500 or 2500 series tanks John?

I think they're ABS so would need a specialist cement.......what about using a two-pack epoxy?

If 2000 series I have a small one I'll never use I think it has a lid.

Default Jobo

Thank you for the offer but I think I will have to deline. It seems the new lids are a lot less than the complete tank so it may not be too bad. Mine is a 1510 for 35mm only. I have been in touch with Jobo in Germany (E Mail address from Firstcall the importers) and asked their advice as well but so far there has not been a reply.

If they are made of ABS (ask the manufacturer) the best adhesive is purpose-made ABS cement, sold in tins for plumbing fittings. It's probably also available in tubes. Don't use general-purpose glue.
Epoxy cement does not bond to ABS in the same way.
Although ABS cement appears to 'grab' in seconds, full strength and resistance to immersion in water is not achieved for a day or two.

Maco Direct have the tank at 39 euro as opposed to FirstCall's £45.

I usually separate the orange ring from the black lid for washing purposes. The seal may work even if one of the three locks is broken.

[fotoimpex also have the tank, at the same price as Maco]

On one of them the locking ring has separated from the black part inside, however in the other it is the two parts of the black funnel and seal section that have come apart. Perhaps I didn't make this clear.
I have experimented with another old 120 tank from JOBO that is cracked and I think I may be able to heat weld it using a low power needle tip soldering iron and bit of plastic cut to replace the bit that has broken off. All I have to do is create a ridge to stop the two parts separating again.

The JOBO website shows complete new tanks in Euros and given the present rate of Euros/pounds they will still be cheaper than buying them and paying for the postage.

In the meantime I still have a couple of lids off my 120 tanks I can use.

Default One down another to go

I used a soldering iron and it worked. The missing piece of plastic was reinforced with a tiny piece of stainless steel wire imbedded in the plastic.

The downside is that I should have done it in the garage, the kitchen pongs of burnt plastic.
