Tmax 3200 rated at 1600 in Rodinal
A silly thing to do after decades. Rated my Tmax 3200 at 1600 by mistake. Can some one advise on brew times and dilutions etc for Rodinal

Have a look at this. It has been lifted directly from the Massive Developing Chart At the end of most of the rows is a section with (notes) which in this version you will not be able to read. What it does say is these times relate to an earlier version of the film but it will be a good start!
It does not give a time for 1600 ISO but the 1250 ISO at 1-50 dilution will (should be)close enough. The times and dilutions appear to go from one extreme to another. Last edited by John King; 2nd April 2022 at 06:23 PM. |

Thanks John
I actually had checked the MDC and noted that there was no specific brew for 1600, if no other info received, as you say - 1250 should be close enough |

This combo and speed must be a very rare beast, Dave. I cannot find any source for this at all. Rodinal instruction sheets give times for P3200 at box speed but not 1600 in Rodinal as 8 mins at 1+25 but you may know this anyway
I did Google it and I cannot find any reference for 1600 and Rodinal. If that's your favourite developer or the only one you have then I don't know what to recommend It's not a combo I have ever used but I suspect it will be very grainy. However if you normally use Rodinal with P3200 but at box speed or another speed just not 1600 then I don't know what to suggest Sorry Mike |

I have a couple of rolls of 120 of Ilford's ISO 3200 film in the fridge, that I want to try out, as I haven't used this film for a good number of years. But from memory I like the grain that it gave and I always used it at the box speed of ISO 3200, rather than the ISO 1000, that a lot of people now say is the 'correct' box speed. It will be interesting to hear what you think of the final negs. Terry S |

Dave,
Have a look at this website.... https://www.devitapp.org/combination...-Adonal-1%2B50 Scroll down the page a good way until you find the Rodinal times. There is one for Tmax 3200 @ 1600 in Rodinal. I have only found the site today so no idea if things are correct. You pays yer money and takes yer chance. Good Luck. edit. I just tried the link and it takes you straight to the desired page. The database is full of all sorts of combinations. Cheers.

It's a pretty comprehensive database but I couldn't find any info on its source or sources for that database
It does seem to rely on users submissions or does it in the way the MDC does. Is it based on a mathematical formula that simply applies a percentage increase/decrease on the known developer makers times from their publications? My Rodinal sheet says 16 mins for 1+50 at 3200 so for 1600 11mins 30 secs might be OK but I don't know It will be interesting to see your negs,Dave, if you go with 11mins 30 secs Mike |

Nat - Interesting. Your link is actually to an app available on the Google or Apple stores. I checked the latter and found that it's been going 4 years and has three 5-ratings in that time. Ratings on his website are a bit more varied (and puzzling).
I noticed a couple of points: (a) Kodak's HIE is credited to Ilford and (b) when I looked at times for PanF+, I found odd repetitions in the timings with Ilfotec HC and LC. The times were correct though. But that aside, it looks fairly handy. (shortly after: I downloaded it to the iPhone and found that it's basically a timer with the timings database attached. Looks useful) Last edited by Michael; 3rd April 2022 at 03:48 PM. |

Tmax has "real" 800-1000 ASA. 1600 ASA should be fine too, but 3200 ASA cannot be reached. You sacrify the shadows.
I recommend a phenidone based developer, because it gains half a stop in comparison to Rodinal. |
