New 5x4 stock film
I’m coming to towards the end of my 5x4 film stock and must soon think about buying some more. I have been using Kodak t-max in the 120 size and could consider that or Tri-x but it is an expensive product and the recommended exposure/development recommendations seem a bit too convoluted for the longer exposures that I usually employ for 5x4. So I’m considering Adox and Fomapan products.
Any thoughts on the change anyone? |

I've become rather fond of TMY2 in 4x5 which I process in my usual brew of PMK pyro diluted 1:2:100. Needs a higher dev time, 22/23C and more agitation to achieve a greater degree of stain to what I get with HP5.
Morco sell it for around £63 for 50 sheets, cheaper than most. My concern with Adox and Foma sheet films is their quality control, or rather lack of it?

I have been using Fomapan 400 in both 35mm and 120 for some time now and have yet to have QC issues, It has some quirks in that it does not like Stop bath, prefers plain water, but that aside I am perfectly happy using it and intend to continue. It needs perhaps slightly more careful handling than the Ilford/Kodak film but is capable of very good results indeed, well worth a try.

I too have had problems with Adox and Foma. I use 35mm and 120, not sheet film, but would avoid using either for anything unrepeatable.

No I haven't, it will wrinkle in my 5x4 holders. Where did you but yours?

Sounds good - I'd be interested in that in 5x7.
Sorry Dave - back to you and that smaller format, 5x4.....

I rate TMY2 at ISO 320 and my normal development time in PMK pyro is 10min. at 22C.
