Agfa Diamator 1500 problem
I don't suppose anyone has or has a link to an strip down diagram of this projector. Seems the last owner tried to force the magazine out and has disrupted the winding on mech. I have it apart but cant figure what's not in place?
Thanks Stephen |

Not to worry as I have figured it out now and everything seems to be working just fine.

Grease for AGFA Diamator 1500
I am working on my Diamator 1500. Did you use or apply a grease to the mechanism that transports the slide in and out.
On mine (sat unused for 15 years) the mechanism is terribly slow and I found the old/hard grease or oil to be the problem. I am not sure what lubricant to use. Also do you have a manual (PDF)? cheers Andy |

Hi Andy,
I find that good old WD40 applied VERY lightly, loosens up anything that I have used it on. If possible, I'd recommend a tin of it with a straw and trigger. This makes it easier to put it where you want it exactly. I also have a small marker pen shaped WD40 applicator, which puts just a spot on to a surface, as long as you can get to where it needs to go. The tin and straw type applicator I am talking about is on their front page, top right, and then again on later slides on the front page, which now includes a 'bendy hose' tin of the stuff. It looks at bit like something out of 'War of the Worlds' to me. : https://wd40.co.uk And I also thought that there was only ONE type of WD40, when apparently there are now quite a few, for different jobs!: https://wd40.co.uk/wd-40-products/ Terry S |

Terry,
What I discovered when I started tinkering with cars is that WD40 is not a lubricant. It is a Water Dispersant (hence WD . . .). I used it in my locks, which eventually became worse as the WD40 gradually dissolved and flushed out the existing lubricant. For your projector you might want to consider a spray Silicone lubricant. Leaves the surfaces slippery but dry so you don't get contamination on any of your slide. |

WD-40 rots plastic and rubber. For locks I use Silca Graphite Antigrip Lock Lubricant.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/321969155321?chn=ps For water dispersal and rust prevention I use Camellia Oil on tools and scythe blades. http://www.woodlandcraftsupplies.co....yword=Camellia or ACF-50 which I discovered when I used to have a motorbike. http://www.acf-50.co.uk |

Graphite lubricant powder is what they used on my sinar copal shutter. Just a couple of small puffs to ease the internal workings. It worked a treat.

Thanks for that guys. I've really only used WD40 for most of my 'problems' with stuck things and have never had a problem, but I will definitely take on board what you say and have a good look at the products you recommend.
WD40's advertising has obviously done its job with me! Terry S Last edited by Terry S; 30th March 2020 at 11:50 AM. |
