Question Hasselblad A12 Back slipping

Hi, I've noticed that my last couple of rolls from the Hasselblad 500 CM have overlapping frames and in places multiple exposures on single frames.

I've just run a film through watching carefully after each shot as I recocked the shutter and it seems that the A12 back is not winding on as it should. I managed 17 shots before getting to the end :-)

Luckily I have a spare and I've repeated the test using that A12 back and that winds on as it should after each firing of the shutter. So I deduce that it is the back that is the problem - which leads me to the question, is this something I can solve myself or does it need professional help (I know I do). I've just had a look at the cost of replacing the errant film back and needed smelling salts - I paid around £80 for a pair only four years ago!

Any thoughts welcomed!

Cheers

To be honest I never thought of that, thank you. I am constantly amazed at what lurks on Google.

Has anyone tried this out of interest, precision engineering is not one of my skills but I’ve nothing to lose by trying!

Thanks Cannik

Hi Dave ,was that really 17 shots because you can only get 12 out of a A12 back if the film back is not working properly the price of a working back can cost a arm and a leg

I forgot to add it would be a good idea to find out how much a repair would cost ,give newton and ellis a call and they could give you an idea how much .

If the problem is wear on the nylon lever you will need a new one no idea who would have that part for sale. I would get a quote for a repair by a pro. Once repaired you would have a film back that you could trust.

Good point. I’ve also watched the video a couple of times and even after a large whiskey I’m not convinced my skills are up to it. I’m on with the quote suggestion therefore.

Thanks all for your input

I carried out the repair/adjustments in the video with great success.

Although my frame spacing wasn't too bad, it was uneven and occasionally the start position would change.

Most of the problem was down to gummed up old lubricant.
