Default And this really is my last enlarger...

There wasn't much interest in this orphaned enlarger so I decided to adopt it.

Durst L1200 Elite 2000 MOT with VLS501 diffused lighting system with stepless contrast adjustment and automatic exposure correction. Microprocessor controlled computerized auto-focusing system with motorized head and lens stage adjustment. Built-in exposure timer coupled with magnification. Programmable with lenses from 28-150mm. Came with both the Femoneg carrier as well as the Milone (Febidap) roll-film adapter, Binema neg carrier with 3 boxes plus 3 minty Nikons 50/80/150.

Due to the motors, she's quite a beast and I'm looking forward to making space for it in my darkroom. I hope to get around to giving it a clean tomorrow then I'll see how she fares before doing any re-programming/fine-tuning of the AF-System.

Fortunately, I have a copy of the instructions in English and there appears to be a manual mode, phew!

Where did you find such a beast?

My AC1201 controller recently took an extended break from working so I've had to revert back to using the Multigrade head/controller.

A professional has decided to sell all of his analogue stuff perhaps a little late. He also has a Devere 5x7, a Durst L900 with Ilford 500 head (and another durst head) 3 deep tanks with double racks for 4x5'' (maybe other sizes too) lights, stands etc. It was a real aladdin's cave!

He isn't looking to make a fortune just a token but some people were offering peanuts. Perhaps dealers looking to make a killing?

He was hoping I'd be willing to take a lot of it off his hands. Otherwise he said it's all going into the skip...

It's such a shame to see the kit we lusted over in our youth to be seen as fit for nothing more than a skip!

How have you got on with this? I'm using a Durst Pictochrom AG which is a later development along the same lines and it's proving to be a lovely enlarger. I did consider an L1200 instead, but the pictochrom came along and it fitted in my car (just!)...

Hi Cesare,

Sounds daft perhaps but I haven't had any time with this beast YET (it's currently in the corner of the bedroom)!
And unfortunately, I won't be able to for a few more weeks simply due to work/family commitments.

However, my darkroom is still fully operational and my last prints were made with a VLS500 head on a L1200 chassis which in turn will be getting moth-balled in order to make room for this model with the newer VLS501 head.
I have no experience with motorized enlagers but I've been able to find a manual on-line so I'm hoping it won't be too difficult!

Have you been able to get your Pictochrom up and running for "all" formats especially the auto exposure correction when making different size enlargements/crops?

How do you find working with the closed-loop and probe?
